Your Journal and posting
Do I need an account?
Not to keep a Journal or make pictures: that works straight away. To post, comment or light candles, sign in with Apple or Google and choose a username. Signing in keeps everything already in your Journal.
How do I post an encounter?
Open the encounter in your Journal and tap Publish. Choose a category and a place (a city, or a named public place in a city), check the preview, and accept the community rules the first time. The post is checked before it appears in the Compendium. Your Journal copy stays private.
Why can't I pick my street or exact location?
To keep you safe, posts only ever name a city or a public place. If you tap "Use my location", your phone works out the nearest city itself and the coordinates never leave your phone.
My post or comment was refused
Every post, comment, username and place name is checked against the community rules before it's published. If it was refused, change the part that breaks a rule (often a real person's name or address) and try again. If the check couldn't run, wait a moment and try again: nothing is published unchecked.
Can I delete a post or comment?
Yes, at any time, from the post or comment itself. A deleted comment that has replies shows as "[deleted]" so the replies still make sense.
Pictures
How do pictures work?
Pick a style (spirit photograph, night vision, film still, oil painting, engraving or instant film) and Apparition sends your encounter's words to an AI model, which imagines the moment. Pictures are AI art, marked "AI picture", and never evidence.
How many pictures can I make?
- Free: 3 pictures a month.
- Apparition Pro: 25 pictures a month.
- Day Pass: 5 extra pictures to use within 24 hours.
Monthly allowances reset on the 1st (UTC). Unused pictures don't carry over.
Why was a picture refused?
The AI model refuses some requests, usually because the words read as graphic violence, gore or sexual content, or name a real person. Try describing the moment more gently: what you saw and felt rather than injuries. A refused or failed picture isn't counted against your allowance.
Reporting and blocking
How do I report something?
Tap the menu on any post, comment or profile and choose Report, then pick a reason. We review reports within 24 hours, remove content that breaks the rules, and ban repeat or serious offenders. 3 reports hide an item straight away until we've reviewed it. The person isn't told who reported them.
How do I block someone?
Tap the menu on their post, comment or profile and choose Block. You won't see their posts or comments any more, and they can't comment on your posts. They aren't told.
Someone is in danger or is being threatened
Report it in the app and email us straight away. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
Pro and the Day Pass
What do Pro and the Day Pass cost?
Apparition Pro is $4.99 a month, or $39.99 a year with a 7-day free trial. The Day Pass is a one-time $1.99. Prices may vary by country. See the subscription terms.
How do I cancel?
- iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions › Apparition › Cancel Subscription.
- Android: open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions › Apparition › Cancel.
Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel a subscription. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
I paid but it isn't showing (restoring purchases)
Open the Me tab and tap Restore purchases, signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you paid with. On a new phone, sign in to Apparition with the same Apple or Google account first. Still not showing? Email us with your username.
Refunds
Payments go through the App Store or Google Play, so refunds are handled by them: Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google Play's refund request page.
Your account
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Me › Delete account. It deletes your posts and their pictures, frees your username, turns your comments into "[deleted]", and deletes your private Journal and your account. No longer have the app? See deleting your data.
Changing phones
If you signed in with Apple or Google, install Apparition on the new phone and sign in with the same account: your Journal and posts come with you. An anonymous Journal belongs to that install only, so sign in before you switch.
